Applicants for political asylum in the United States originate from a number of nations around the world. This Demonstration shows the relationship during 2000–2005 between country of origin and the granting of those applications. If you hold the mouse pointer over a nation, you can see information on the number of applicants from that nation in absolute and per capita terms and the acceptance rate for asylum applications. You can select the area of the world in which you are most interested and whether you want to see the number of asylum applicants, the number of applicants per capita, or the percentage of applications granted. Only nations that had 100 or more applicants during the relevant time period are shown.
